Bug Description

When you've set a different, non-default, mouse style from appearances, Unity doesn't display it correctly. Occasionally, the secondary version (pointing finger, expander) will correctly honor the theme, but the main pointer will always appear as the while mouse pointer.

However, if you take a screen shot of the desktop, it _will_ display the correct pointer.

The issue you're describing doesn't sound related to Unity. Could you log into a Gnome 2 session and see if this issue persists?

Alright, logged into both a GNOME2 session and a Unity 2D session. Gnome2 did not honor the preference, Unnity 2D did. So, would that make this a Compiz issue?

Was just playing around in Natty again (with the preference set to DMZ Black for the pointer) launched Aislerot and noticed that it did show the correct pointer, when I was on the tableau. I went back to see where it worked and where it didn't. As soon as the pointer entered the green area, it would change to black. Moving to the toolbar for the program or anywhere else on the screen, it was white.

not an issue in Unity, the problem happens with compiz as I can reproduce it in classic session too and does not happen with metacity.

Every Ubuntu release since two years features this bug.
Why can't it be fixed for good?

Please change the importance of this bug to at least medium.

This problem still exists in Unity (3D) in Oneiric. It is possible to change the cursor theme with gnome-tweak-tool, but the default arrow pointer does not change. Other pointers, such as text and resize cursors are displayed properly.

This bug affects also Ubuntu 14.04, I tried to change my cursor theme to a custom one and it is been displayed only in Firefox; moving the pointer away from Firefox window, it reverts its theme to the previous one.

I confirm this on Ubuntu 14.04. Tried many installations and you're 100% it will affect your machine at some point. Very annoying bug.
