Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

When using "classic desktop" with effect in current Natty alpha, the wobbly windows plugin of compiz - when enabled - causes all maximized windows to shiver when they come into focus.

Windows that are not maximized do not have that effect. This is regardless of the setting in the compiz config manager preferences for the plugin.

while this wobbling is going on, the window switcher and other plugins are needlessly delayed as well; click on a maximized window and it could be 2 seconds before the static window switcher will work, for example (alt-tab)

Happens with me. At first I thought it wasn't relevant cause I manually re-enabled wobbly windows after upgrading to natty, but then I remembered I subsequently wiped my ./.compiz & ./.gconf/apps/compiz folders to un-break....everything. Haven't tested in Unity, really I've been afraid to go back to that freak show until at least the next beta milestone.

this also happens when you mouse between windows with the scale plugin

That happens to me also with just released natty - the maximized window shivers when gaining or losing focus. Turning off the maximize effect of the wobbly windows plugin fixes that.

Turning off the maximize effect does indeed make the problem go away, but this is not a proper fix. The windows should not shiver on focus, regardless of the state of this option.

This is still an issue in 16.04.1 LTS. When a maximized window is focused or defocused, it "shivers" (although this is apparently not related to the shiver option. It occurs on windows that are maximized horizontally, windows that are maximized vertically, and windows that are maximized both horizontally and vertically. Like described above, disabling "Maximize Effect" stops this behavior.

so, I think I figured out why this was happening.

in the Window Decoration settings, if your Active Shadow Radius is different from your Inactive Shadow Radius, then the windows wobble when alt tabbing between maximized windows.

It looks like the wobbly windows considers the difference in size between the window shadows as a window resize and causes the wobble. If you set the Active Shadow Radius to be the same as the Inactive Shadow Radius, then the wobble on alt-tabbing to a maximized window goes away.

I'm sorry but WTF & also this is an epic meme in & of itself. Allow me to
elaborate.

I filed this bug report something like 10 years ago. Since then, the ENTIRE
COMMUNITY has moved away from x compositors. Literally a war was fought
between the integrated display servers & there were failed commits on both
sides. literally millions of dollars invested. We can still feel the scars
of that war to this day.

I mean...is Compiz even in active development? I'd have half a mind to
believe this but report is COMPIZ-FUSION old. I'm not trying to be an
asshole here, I'm more amazed than anything. I wasn't even in my 20s when I
filed this & now I'm using propecia.
