Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue? Please have a look at http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that version. Thanks in advance.

I'm running 10.04 LTS & don't plan to upgrade any time soon. I just tried changing by visual effects setting from none to normal & it doesn't go black like it did before, but some of the windows are an annoying translucent so I'll stick with None.

I am using Mint 9 x64, and my visual effects are set to custom. I have 124 files, (pict. Jpeg and .png) in my background folder, but the appearance application only shows 59 in the GUI.
In the past, the added files would just disappear out of the folder completely.
Now there seems to be no way to access the missing files from the GUI. I've tried replacing the files in sudo nautilus but no change. Never had this problem in any other distribution from 6.04 ubuntu to ultimate ubuntu 2.9.
