Since Ubuntu 9.10 Compiz became to perform very badly — windows are moving jerkily, effects are too abrupt and performance in 3D applications is being reduced a lot. In 9.04 Compiz was working fine. Also, the current version of Kwin works fine too — effects are very smooth and running Kwin isn't reduce the 3D performance in other apps.
This problem exists at least on Nvidia and Intel video cards. |
Since Ubuntu 9.10 Compiz became to detect monitor's refresh rate incorrectly, so the performance became very low by default.
My monitor works at 60 Hz (or 60.02 as the NVidia Settings tool says), when Compiz choose 50 Hz by default. |

Compiz detects monitor's refresh rate incorrectly, so the performance is very low with default settings.
My monitor works at 60 Hz (or 60.02 as the NVidia Settings tool says), when Compiz choose 50 Hz by default. Also when synchronization with Vblank is enabled, in some cases tearing disappears, but sometimes lags just getting more terrible.
