Running from a Beta LiveCD i386 (Visual Effects enabled: Normal) by changing gnome-panel properties at the bottom panel changes should be applied instantly.

By changing gnome-panel properties at the bottom panel changes are applied but not visible. By changing the panel size forth and back the changes gets visible.

I can reproduce this bug with the following steps:
1) starting the LiveCD
2) connecting to a wireless network
3) add main repository source and update
4) install xchat
5) change workspaces to 4 columns
6) change panel properties "show hide buttons":ON and "arrows on hide buttons":OFF
--> changes to the panel at stage 6 aren't visible!
changing anything (after this step) on the bottom panel is not visible

There is an easier way to reproduce this:
1) open gnome-panel properties
2) fast klicking on "Show hide buttons" and "Arrow on hide buttons" to enable/disable it (more the once) breaks the visual applying

moved it to compiz, since there's no problem when compiz is disabled.
