Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Context:
Restricted Graphics driver, full desktop effects and then some.

When this happens, (50/50 chance) the most obvious symptom is the complete lack of window borders, (including the menu bar I think), however, every other feature compiz provides is disabled. Luckily, the console I have opened is always put on top at the upper left of the screen. To give it focus, I only have to mouse over.

Workarounds:
?> sudo killall Xorg (requires login)
?> compiz & (works for a time, then exits, and everything is back to normal)

This was a bug in the intel driver that was fixed recently. With karmic up-to-date you should not see it anymore.

Thank you, I haven't seen a repeat since I filed the bug. There still seem to be lots of problems with standby/resume, but this one may be fixed.

I think this bug has been marked as a duplicate in error: The symptomology is different. When the bug occurs, the screen never blanks completely, although I am (was recently) experiencing another error that does. It appears to be a drive mount failure, however..

The symptoms are different but I was assured it was the same problem and when that problem was fixed this bug went away for me too.
