Bug Description

When you use the Show Desktop Compiz plugin, (in my case, moving the mouse arrow to the right-down corner of the screen) to hide the opened windows, and you do that again to restore them, and then you start writing an url in firefox, it does nothing: no autocompletion.

Usually, when you start writing an url firefox shows a list with suggestions, but if you hide it with show desktop and restore it again, it doesn't work anymore.

I guess it's something about the suggestions list being hidden below the window, or something like that.

It has happened to me as well when closing the laptop lid and opening again, but now I'm unable to reproduce it - any experiences on this issue would be appreciated too.

Show Desktop plugin isn't used in Ubuntu by default, so the exposure of this bug is limited to a relatively small user population who install CCSM.

This means it is not a 'paper cut'. Don't worry though, this is still a valid bug.

Changed in hundredpapercuts:
status: New → Invalid
Changed in compiz (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Triaged
summary: - Compiz: Show Desktop disables Firefox url autocompletion

I have experienced similar symptoms with the Awesome bar in Firefox while running Compiz. I have never observed the issue when running Metacity. I could not reproduce the bug on first try using show desktop to try to trigger it. I have show desktop enabled but have not been using its functionality lately (due to a different bug: it misplaces windows a few desktops over sometimes).

I will disable the plugin and post if I can still reproduce this bug.

I would guess it's a z-order bug, since the Awesomebar with correct suggestions suddenly appears and works normally again if Firefox loses focus and has it restored (eg, alt-tab or clicking another titlebar and then clicking Firefox's titlebar).

Still an issue in 11.10, but I only notice it with both firefox and thunderbird, so may be a xul/compiz issue?

Always happens with the Scale window change, drop down/context menus don't show (awesome bar and search bar suggestions) or close when focused (right click menus). Only fixed by using alt-tab, so makes the scale plugin almost unusable.

Can anyone else confirm? There probably is a bug report less specific than this, and we can close this as a duplicate.

Just noticed (and this has saved me huge amounts of frustration using both firefox and thunderbird in the last few days) this only happens and is 100% reproducible in my system if TB and FF are on different desktops. Can anyone else try it out?
