Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When I have Firefox or another window focused and then click on the date/time on gnome-panel, the calendar appears but is hidden behind the focused window. Clicking anywhere on the active window or moving the cursor where the "location list" should be makes the calender appear. Note that this only seems to happen when the location list is open.

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Make sure you have a few locations added and have the list expanded.
  2. Open Firefox or another window and have it in the upper left-hand corner of your screen.
  3. Make sure Firefox or your other window has focus and click on the date/time applet. Nothing should appear.
  4. Click anywhere on your focused window or move your cursor to where "the location list" should be.
  5. The calender should appear on top.

thank you for your bug report, do you use the desktop effects? do you have custom settings?

@Sebastien:

I've exactly the same problem. It seems to be a compiz issue, because the problem only appears when I have the desktop effects enabled. The problem is reproducible even with a newly created user, so I haven't got any custom settings apart from the default ones.

I attach an screenshot to illustrate the problem. You can see that the calendar shows behind the active window (the gnome-terminal), but it shows in front of the firefox window.

It seems to be a recurrent issue. The bug #131050 (and its duplicates) talks about the same, and a fix was released on 2007. Maybe the same fix could work here, too.

don't open a new task but rather reassign the bug when it's due to something else or you keep mailing people who are not concerned by the issue
