Bug Description

When I operate my scroll wheel (or slide on touchpad) over certain portions of the two specified apps, the "Desktop Wall" of compiz cycles through the virtual desktops.

1. Make sure compiz is enabled.
2. Make sure that the mouse scroll wheel (or touchpad scroll) make your virtual desktops change when it is scrolled over the desktop (i.e. not over any windows, etc.).
3. Start up Gedit (I used gedit 2.24.2).
4. Make sure Gedit has tabs enabled.
5. Locate the darker gray border of the text editing area on the left. For me, it is about two pixels wide, as indicated by the "X"s in the attached screenshot.
6. Put the mouse pointer tip oven that border.
7. Operate the mouse's scroll.
8. BUG: "Desktop Wall" virtual desktops get cycled as if the mouse was being scrolled over the open desktop.

A) The buggy border in Gedit also at least exists above the text edit area, including the lower edge of the tab (where the gray border would be if the tab was not there).
B) Same behavior occurs with the F-Spot app in the indicated places.
C) The behavior occurs even if another window is behind the buggy window.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in compiz.

For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Also, I've been unable to reproduce your issue on Ubuntu 8.10. Can you tell us the exact setting you turn on within CompizConfig Settings? I've tried this with Rotate Cube, and Desktop Wall, but so far been unable to duplicate.

Also, it occurs for me on any background-type area on the CompizConfig Settings Manager. E.g. to the left, wherever the mouse is not over a button.

Would this be video-card-specific?
I am using an Acer TravelMate 4720, with integrated, shared-memory graphics (dunno the details).
