Bug Description
Binary package hint: compiz
I have had this problem with both Ubuntu 8.04 and now 8.10. The problem only occurs with advanced Compiz graphics enabled. The problem is also most evident when the CPU monitors in the Ubuntu panel are incorrectly displayed as blank boxes instead.
Also,a similar problem (which only occurs with Compiz enabled) occurs very often when I try to resize a window. In this case the entire display (progressively) crashes, with the mouse barely working at all, then not at all. The windows are displayed with patches of incorrect graphics. The Ubuntu panel becomes patchy with the CPU monitor graphics displayed as blank boxes instead. CTRL+ALT+DEL does not work. I have to force restart. This may be related to this reported bug.
