Compiz draws garbage on screen before opening window

Bug Description

When opening new maximised windows with Compiz, they momentarily display garbage (<1s) before the window refreshes. This only happens with large windows. Menus, et al display fine.

The garbage always consists of diagonal lines, suggesting Compiz is rendering from a buffer previously used for another window before the current window has rendered.

I've attached a screenshot (captured with the PrtScr key after several attempts).

Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex pre-release, fully updated as of today (Oct 13). Compiz version: 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu2

All animations for new windows have been disabled, but problem persists. Problem does not manifest for windows restored from minimise. It is only seen with newly mapped windows.

Is anyone with this problem also running AWN?

No AWN here. The problem's bugged me enough to turn off Compiz entirely.

It occurs me with almost all windows, especially when am opening them. This has become a great annoyance for me. When I get a tooltip which is more than a line length, like when pointing over a thread of mails in Thunderbird, the tooltip is completely blacked out.

This also occurs in Jaunty beta, except that it doesn't go away immediately. It requires some sort of action with the window that forces it to redraw. It also happens with the desktop.

I am running awn.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

Also if you can still reproduce with 9.04 or 9.10 please name the applications you are seeing this problem with. It may still happen with Firefox, Thunderbird, and legacy applications that do not use _NET_WM_SYNC_REQUEST to let compiz know when they have finished drawing and are ready to be displayed. It should, however, not be happening at all for GTK+ apps.
