windows maximize across all screens with multiple monitor

Bug Description

I just plugged in an external monitor to my laptop. After a bit of logging in and out, the System->Preferences->Screen resolution tool managed to set up the screens ok: both top and bottom panels are on my external monitor, which is placed above my laptop monitor.

However, now if I maximize a window, it is maximized across both monitors simultaneously, which is unintuitive and probably wrong.

Hmm, actually in the screenshot it looks kinda cool... but only because I'm using firefox on a long page. With e.g. nautilus it would be very odd. I don't think this should be the default behaviour after hitting the maximize button; instead the default should be to maximize to the current monitor only.

Hm. That does look odd!

It would be useful to know what graphics card you're using. Could you attach:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
and the output of running "xrandr --verbose" please?

Also, if you have compizconfig-settings-manager installed, could you check that "Detect outputs" is enabled in System->Preferences->CompizConfig Settings Manager->General Options->Display Settings.

Attached... however, the bug has now gone away. (Whenever I plug my
laptop back in to the dock with the screen attached, I have to reuse
System->Preferences->Screen Resolution, wait to see if X hangs or
crashes, logout, login, and the results are pretty random.)

From the previous comment it sounds like this bug has been resolved. Please re-open it if you think this is wrong and can still reproduce this problem.
