Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Ubuntu 8.04.1
Compiz 1:0.7.4-0ubuntu7
Intel X3100, i965 IGP

When using Compiz and the Metacity border, Simple, the title bar is rendered incorrectly. The enclosing line that is supposed to be on the right side (at all times) is only apparent in maximized windows. The line is also apparent when moving a wobbly window. Screenshot provided below...

Can you provide additional information to make this reproducible?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I have an Intel X3100 IGP. I will add this to the description. Maybe this is a bug in the Intel xorg driver then?

I, too, have an Intel graphics processor, although not the same one. Still, I
am setting this bug back to New to see if someone else can reproduce it.

Which card do you have exactly? Seeing as there are two Intel drivers, I could assign this to the xserver-xorg-video-intel if you have a card belonging to the i810 driver.

I have an Intel GMA 950 integrated in an Intel Mobile 945 GM chipset. (Or
something like that, anyway!) I too am using the intel driver.

Added the intel package since the X3100 is part of the i965 chipset and solely supported by the intel driver. Just trying to cover all my bases ;]

Hi nanoman,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISOs are available from cdimage.ubuntu.com)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

The output of lspci -vvnn would also be worth having.

[This is an automatic notice.]

We'd like to forward your bug upstream, however upstream requires
that you first test it against their newer driver code.

To save you the effort of building the driver from source, we've built
packages for the driver and its new dependencies.

So you have a couple options:

 1. Download and test .debs for intrepid, from:
     https://edge.launchpad.net/~intel-gfx-testing/+archive

 -or-

 2. Download and test the Jaunty alpha-2 (or newer) Live CD,
(which includes a beta of the new xserver 1.6 as well).
     See http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.04/ for ISOs

Thanks ahead of time! You can simply reply to this email to report your
findings.

P.S., if you wish to forward your bug upstream yourself, please follow
these directions to do so:

I still have this problem in Jaunty alpha-2 and it looks exactly like the first screenshot.
Bug 242504 is also similar...

System environment:
-- chipset: 965GM
-- system architecture: 64-bit
-- xf86-video-intel: 2:2.5.1-1ubuntu6
-- xserver: 1:7.4~5ubuntu7
-- mesa: 7.2+git20081209
-- drm: 2.41-0ubuntu8
-- kernel: 2.6.28-3-generic #4-Ubuntu SMP
-- Linux distribution: Jaunty Alpha 2
-- Machine or mobo model: Dell Inspiron 1525
-- Display connector: LVDS?

I found this relevant bug on the freedesktop.org site:

Thanks; this sort of feels like a mesa bug rather than -intel, but we can forward it upstream now, and let them decide.

Can you let us know if this issue still occurs with the Jaunty release? If so, please also see if the 2.7.0 driver resolves it:

In looking at the bug, it looks like a window manager drawing issue rather than a driver thing. Feel free to reopen the -intel task if I'm wrong.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #> and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
