I have the same problem after an update of intrepid. One of the package that was updated was metacity.

I can confirme these effect - it's triggered by today updates of the packages:

By downgrading with the relevant packages Version 2.22.0-0ubuntu4 the effects can be eleminated.

The effect is activ in the compiz-desktop only, by typing 'metacity --replace' in the console/terminal correct head of the windows will be shown after a new login (restart gdm).

Then this bug does not belong under metacity. I'm moving it to compiz in case they have any ideas.

The buttons re-appear after update "compiz_0.7.6" and are useable, but I'm not satisfied in whole due to the bad arrangement of them - see attachements

We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

G'day,

I gave up on the problem and installed 8.04 and have had no further
instances of it.

Regards,

Roger
