Hi Compiz is a set of programs used for managing the desktop and enabling the special effects. You use the Synaptic package manager to uninstall and install them(and all your other software). If you do not know where that is you find it in desktop menu under System>Administration>Synaptic Packager Manager. This has a search utility and you can search for compiz and it will list all the compiz packages on your system. You right click on the package to get the list of available actions. All I did was choose the complete uninstall option(removes all settings as well as the software) and then reinstall. It seems that that did the trick. When doing this I was logged in using the Gnome failsafe desktop which does not need compiz. Hope this helps. By the way, once you get used to linux you'll love it. I took windows off my system 2 years ago and don't miss it at all. Have fun. Bob Fleming On Tue, Apr 15, 2008 at 3:07 PM, robbackus
