did an aptitude upgrade and now compiz crashes in gnome session unless I choose 'default' session.

ug, not saying its a bug, but when I log into my machine I end up with a white screen that doesn't allow me to do anything. a failsafe gnome session lets me log in, but apparently my normal gnome session crashes compiz.real.
