I believe I attempted to restore a window, just after opening the lid. Compiz hung for a little while, then died.

http://www.cory.lievers.ca this bug is very hard to recreat or predict. Best is to use your intuation knowing what you know about the setup we have running. Its the only compiz bug I have experience in ages months and monts.
