compiz stops working

Bug #198890 reported by James Thorrold on 2008-03-05
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
compiz (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

Compiz suddenly stops working (effects etc. don't work), the cause for this i am unsure but the programs i have open when this happened were: Mozilla Firefox (latest) Quanta HTML Editor, System Monitor, File Browser, AMSN and Amarok media player. I am using Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) with latest updates and am using an NVidia Geforce FX 5200 graphics card. I used the compiz --replace command in the terminal, it restarts Compiz and all seems to be ok, this is the result i recieved:

$ compiz --replace
