Bug Description
Binary package hint: compiz
Not too sure if this is a replicated bug or not - anyway, on installing updates to Hardy (13.Feb.2008) and restarting, the machine's password was not recognised, (is this possble?!) not too sure what is going on. I tried changing it via the command line, but it didn't work.
If this is possible(!), i.e. inability to recognise a password (i assume the username is recognised since it appears in the command line), it may be a security vulnerability, so I'll notify it as such just to be safe.
In an attempt to access the system, I added a new user via the command line, and managed to log into my system that way, but on doing so, after displaying my original desktop wall paper, the Gnome display is totally white.
Anyway, I have some files i wish to recover - after doing that, I will attempt a fresh install and see what happens.
