this happened to be when having two instances of nautilus opened. one on my thumb drive and one of an ntfs partition used for videos.
firefox was open and was also running. i am using hardy heron. amarok and screenlets in widget layer were running. emerald is being used along with compiz fusion.

and then the decorations just bam! dissappeared and crashed i guess. along with the two nautilus windows.
