Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Hi,

Since a couple days ago, every time I turn on the PC I am greeted by an empty desktop with no panel:

However, as soon as I click the desktop the panel and a password dialogue (called by network manager) appear:

It only happens when Compiz is enabled: if I open the desktop effects dialogue and disable compiz, everything works fine. That's why I think that Compiz is causing the problem.

Big Bug:

I was experimenting with gDesklets and Compiz Fusion, trying to put the widgets on the widget layer by experimenting with the widget windows text field in compiz settings. Somehow (I don't know how) the field came to be occupied by a text that was similar to this:

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

This caused my system to become totally useless once GNOME loaded and activated compiz. All input was useless, I couldn't even change virtual terminals. No good!
