High CPU usage (100%) by different applications 14.04 LTS

Bug Description

Hi,

I've noticed that many applications randomly use 100% of the CPU cores for an indefinitely period of time.

For example...
* the Shotwell Viewer (without doing anything with it... just left a picture opened)
* the YELP application (isn't this just like a html viewer?)
