Glitching and no unity showing after vmware easy install

I installed trusty final i386 via vmware easy install. Everything went fine and I was able to login at the greeter. After that, I saw the wallpaper, but no chrome, and there was some graphical glitching. I had a cursor initially. Using super key made everything turn black.

I switched to a vt to file the bug. I've got this running still for any recreates we need.
