Using gnome fallback (compiz).

What exactly crashed — gnome-session or compiz?

If it is compiz, I would like to recommend you to install these ddebs:

http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/pool/main/c/compiz/compiz-core-dbgsym_0.9.11+14.04.20140409-0ubuntu1_amd64.ddeb
http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/pool/main/c/compiz/compiz-gnome-dbgsym_0.9.11+14.04.20140409-0ubuntu1_amd64.ddeb
http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/pool/main/c/compiz/compiz-plugins-default-dbgsym_0.9.11+14.04.20140409-0ubuntu1_amd64.ddeb

… then run compiz in gdb with "--replace" flag, trigger the crash and paste the stacktrace here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash for details.

Or, alternatively, configure Apport to submit crashes to Launchpad (see answer in http://askubuntu.com/questions/150476/ for the instruction) and submit the bug using Apport.

I have the same issue. The workspace switcher crashes the panels. They vanish, and I have to log out to restore them.

Same issue here. Hotkeys don't work and panels disappear when switching with clicking the Workspace Switcher

Have the same issue but only started recently, possibly after upgrading Ubuntu to 14.04. Happens every time when trying to using the short keys for changing viewport (ie Ctrl-Alt-ArrowKeys). However changing viewport using the expo key or mouse (shows HUD with all viewports), it switches viewports fine and does not crash.
I ran compiz in gdb following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingCompiz under advanced debugging and got an error log.
note: I had to run gdb in screen and resuming it in different tty terminal (ex Ctrl-Alt-F1) to finish debugging since desktop became unusable after crashing.

I have the same issue. I am on Ubuntu 14.04 64, Unity

When any application is in fullscreen mode (let it be skype, QtCreator...anything) when I try to swap to another workspace by ctrl+alt+arrows, compiz crashes and the cpu load goes to 100%

Restarting lightdm does not solve it...only solution is to restart the pc

GPU is nvidia 9300m, using 331 drivers
