Of course, I enabled the effects using gnome-compiz-manager

To be verbose, the "Desktop effects" DON't cause the bug. I can have gummy windows, transparency etc with no problem.

It is really just the advanced GL desktop effects that do so. I have "Show desktop" and "All windows" activated.

When I disable the GL desktop globally (using the manager), the Totem starts working well IMMEDIATELY. Just click to "enable" and picture is gone again.
