White boxes where there should be shadows

Bug Description

In Gutsy Gibbon, when I turn desktop-effects on, white stripes (or thin boxes) appear where there should be the shadows, ie. around any window and gnome-panel.
It worked perfectly in Feisty Fawn.
My video card is an Intel 945, using the beta "intel" xorg driver.

Edit: not all windows are affected, only gnome-panel, all the dropdown menus and tooltips.

Should this work correctly by now? I still get white bars around the panels and the menus, though shadows work correctly around "normal" windows.
