Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

the desktop-effekt works great until i switch to a user who has activated the desktop-effects. then the screen becomes white and i just see the the cursor.
the bug also appears when i turn on the desktop-effects after a user-switch.
some related bugs were posted before, but in this case the whitescreen just appears in coherence with a user-switch. starting up and working with only one user runs great without any trouble.

PS: i hope the section compiz is the right one. im swinging between compiz and desktop-effects.

Not sure where to put this bug but it's a multi-layer problem. The main problem is that only the first X server can do 3d. Don't think compiz is doing anything wrong.

ah ok that seems quiet evident. i will have a closer look to the x-server for a workarround.

I tried to deactivate the desktop-effects with a shell script, but sadly i cant find any commands can do that. my intention was to run the script before a user switch, so that only one x-server does 3d.

perhaps someone can tell me a shell command to deaktivate the desktop-effects.

Just run 'metacity --replace' and compiz will stop running.

here it is strange, because if I swith the first time the white screen is coming, I can't see anything, but write my password and get back to the desktop of the first user. But then if I cancel the second user, and directly log in the second user again, then there is no white screen when going back, but I can't write in the password line. I have to cancel the password box, then getting the black screen and the next password screen is working.
