Compiz top menu bar does not install gnome-shell-timer applet

Ubuntu now has the option of downloading the gnome-shell-timer (a WONDERFUL little program) but then the expected icon does not appear on the upper-right menubar, and the timer does not appear to work correctly.

I miss this timer very much. The other downloadable timer options are inconvenient and fussy, and require many keystrokes. They are also likely to integrate into some billing system that I don't need or use.
