Bug Description

1) lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Release: 14.04

2) apt-cache policy gnome-session-fallback
gnome-session-fallback:
  Installed: 1:3.8.0-1ubuntu12.1
  Candidate: 1:3.8.0-1ubuntu12.1
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.8.0-1ubuntu12.1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-updates/universe amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     1:3.8.0-1ubuntu11 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages

3) What is expected to happen is when one installs gnome-session-fallback, logs into this session, and clicks Alt+Tab, it switches between windows.

4) What happens instead is it doesn't. This is despite how in System Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts the "Switch Applications" is set to Alt+tab.

WORKAROUND: Install packages compiz-plugins compizconfig-settings-manager and in CompizConfig Settings Manager enable Application Switcher.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in gnome-panel (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
security vulnerability: no → yes

This bug also exists in Ubuntu 12.04 Precise, but I hope that it could be fixed for 12.10 Quantal.

This bug does not happens in 12.04 for me.

I found the fix for this problem. Install compiz-plugins and enable "Static application switcher" in ccsm.

This is bug with compiz not gnome-panel. GNOME Panel itself does not know anything about 'Alt+Tab'.

Alberts Muktupāvels, thanks for the quick response. It would seem a downstream issue in that Ubuntu would need to have at least the package compiz-plugins a dependent of a gnome-session-fallback install, and the appropriate plugin bits enabled for Application Switcher.

affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) → compiz (Ubuntu)
