Compiz-gtk does not need Metacity and thus should not depend on it

Bug #105436 reported by Vincent on 2007-04-11
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
compiz (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz-gtk

I was told to report this as a bug here:

"Compiz-Gtk allows use of Metacity Themes." It does not *need* Metacity themes, therefore metacity should only be recommended, not depended on. Very annoying for Xubuntu users that'd like Compiz.

Changed in compiz:
assignee: nobody → sacater
status: Unconfirmed → In Progress
Travis Watkins (amaranth) wrote :

Metacity theme support is a compile time option. If you compile compiz with support for it then compiz-gtk does _require_ metacity to work.

travis@sorrow:~$ ldd /usr/bin/gtk-window-decorator | grep meta => /usr/lib/ (0xb7e34000)

Changed in compiz:
status: In Progress → Rejected

OK, would it be possible to compile it without Metacity support? If not, I don't see the use of Compiz-core...
