This bug has been reported many times on Ask Ubuntu, but I think I've figured it out (see attachment)

In order to use Gnome Classic and Compiz, one has to use the General Settings>Desktop Size

Then choose Horizontal Virtual Size as 4

Vertical Virtual Size 1

Number of Desktops 1

This results in ALL Desktops having the same name "Worspace 1" - I believe this is the source of the problem.

Is there any way to rename each of the Horizontal Virtual Size "workspaces"?

Thanks
