Is colord really needed in the bare-minimal "install ubuntu" session? It was not loaded previously (e.g. early raring and previous releases). Or is it really necessary to load that now?

It would interesting to trace what does activate it. I am randomly guessing gnome-settings-daemon ;-)

Hey Dmitrijs, when is "recently"? gnome-settings-daemon didn't change much recently, it seems like the service gets dbus activated, ideally we shouldn't activate it if no profile is active for the user...

hum, booting a precise iso in desktop mode, colord is running ... I think gnome-settings-daemon dbus activates it and that it's not new, do you have gnome-settings-daemon running? did it used to be the case? do you select the plugins you activate or not?

I'm not talking about Desktop mode aka "Try Ubuntu"
I'm talking about booting the Cd and clicking "Install Ubuntu"
or better at the bootprompt (the a11y human/keyboard icon) press Esc
and select Install Ubuntu.

Dmitrijs.

Hmm... I haven't kept install logs of my old machine, but I can look
at the launchpad reported bugs to see when it started appearing.
Something like half way into raring development cycle - roughly.

Dmitrijs.

right, which is why I asked "do you have gnome-settings-daemon running? did it used to be the case? do you select the plugins you activate or not?"

right, right =) yes it is running, ubiquity-dm starts it.

is that new? (I don't understand why you didn't have colord running before if you were already using g-s-d)

I guess you could disable gnome-settings-daemon plugins in ubiquity and only keep those you need, e.g "gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.color active false"
