Bug Description

I tried to install it but was surprised to see the installer crashing everytime it reached the stage where my pic would be taken from the webcam.
I use the integrated webcam of my system which is a IBM ThinkPad R61. I have an old issue with Wifi in ubuntu which has carried forward to this too so I disabled the wifi connection the second time I tried the installer.
Again it crashed at the very same instance despite the installer having progressed substantially.
I think it is thus related to the webcam being called to take a pic when creating my login profile.

Please help.

You are probably affected by this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1082458

The problem is that this got fixed in 13.04 (by removing the webcam feature) and backporting the installer seems not possible without messing around, so i would try to add the boot-parameter modprobe.blacklist=uvcvideo on the live boot medium. This should disable the webcam and prevent ubiquity from crashing.

To add the boot-parameter press any button if you see the "human = keyboard" icon at the bottom of the screen. You'll land at the boot menu with options like "Try without installing" etc. Now press F6 to enable boot-parameter editing and press Esc to close the menu that popups. Now you are able to edit the text at the bottom of the screen (above the options). Insert the text "modprobe.blacklist=uvcvideo" before the "--".
The text should look like this afterwards http://imgur.com/X6cBF81 (note the spaces before and after "http://imgur.com/X6cBF81").
Now press enter and proceed as usual with the installation.

I'll mark this bug as incomplete for now. Please reply if my solution worked that i can transfer this bug into a question on lp as bug-reports disappear.

Thank you for the quick response and my apologies for seeing it so late.

I am absolutely loving this project's forum for the speed and accuracy AND the user-friendliness of the response.

I shall try it out and revert.

Thanks.

Dear Raphael,

I thought that I should point out another point to boost your enthusiasm as the least that I can do.

I was downloading linux mint to install on my system.

Thanks to the quality of your response I have dropped the idea till I test this out.

I really appreciate your inclusion of an elementaryos screenshot rather than a stale ubuntu one which shows positive effort from your end.

Honestly, I have received MUCH less friendly responses on communities and MUCH MUCH less helpful responses for my Windows troubles.

Thanks again.

Dear teemperor,

I have attached the screenshot as the bug has repeated itself despite the problem.

I am not using a CD/DVD. Used unetbootin to create a liveUSB and then run the installer.

Please advise.

For clarification, since the error report covers it up, the Install program is just showing the progress bar (approx 17% done) and the present activity as "Copying Files..."

I feel like there's some issues with the mdd5sum of the iso file. It didn't match the md5sum on sourceforge
