Bug Description

Binary package hint: clamav

Version: 0.94.dfsg.2-1ubuntu0.3~hardy4

The end-of-life of ClamAV 0.94 in April 2010 has been announced:

http://www.clamav.net/2009/10/05/eol-clamav-094/

This version is still present in hardy and hardy-updates. While I understand it is a "universe" package, it would be nice if it would continue to be supported in 8.04 LTS. I see there is a 0.95 package in hardy-backports, which I will test - if no problems are found, perhaps it could be moved into -updates (and maybe even -security?) nearer the deadline ..

Steve

The plan is to move them well before the deadline.

Intrepid will EOL about the same time this comes up. Unless some other issue forces the question, we won't update it.

I upgraded to the -backports version and have noticed no problems - all the client apps that rely on Clam here (a few scripts, a Thunderbird plugin, and the havp scanning proxy) seem to be quite happy.

(The only tiny glitch was having to merge in config file changes due to new and discontinued options - seems to happen fairly often with ClamAV. Would it make sense to go to a system like gdm uses, where user customizations are stored in a separate file, allowing the base config to be changed underneath on version upgrades? A bit of sed magic in the init.d script would probably do the trick..)

Since this is not on the CDs, this isn't tied to the 8.04.4 milestone.

Changed in clamav (Ubuntu Hardy):
milestone: ubuntu-8.04.4 → none

I've been using clamav 0.95 from hardy-backports on my server for a while now (in fact since it made it into backports), haven't had any problems with it sor far.
