From server name only 8 characters are stored

I haven 2 Synology network attached storages DS200.
They are named 'hukema001' and 'hukema002'.
Everything works great under Windows.
In Ubuntu only one works.
After changing the names to 'hukema01' and 'hukema02' it worked.
So Ubuntu seems to store only the first 8 characters from de servername.

I use Ubuntu 12.04.
