Bug Description

I tried importing my bookmarks from Firefox. I export the bookmarks into an HTML file through the firefox dialog and place it in a folder. In Chrome/Chromium I navigate to the bookmark manager and choose "Import from HTML file" in the resulting file dialog the dropdown menu is restricted to "application/x-extension-html". This will not allow me to select any files at all let alone the desired html file.

Expected behavior:

I should be able to select the html file generated by another piece of software and have the contained bookmarks imported into Chrome/Chromium

Actual behavior:

Can not select any html file to import at all. Impossible to import bookmarks any way since the import browser data function is broken as well.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Export bookmarks to HTML file from another browser
2. Open Bookmarks Manager
3. Select "Import from HTML file" in the Organize menu
4. Can not select html file in the file dialog

The tested version of Chrome/Chromium is 17.0.963.79 (Developer Build 125985 Linux) Ubuntu 11.10 but this has been broken for the last couple releases as well.

meist3r,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time. Your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates.

It would help us a lot if you could test on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running only once in a terminal:

and add any additional information that you think relevant. Alternatively, please confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the report. If we do not hear from you the bug report will close itself in approximately two months time.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better.

Just close this. Six years and a complete Firefox rebuild later I have no way to verify if this still applies.
