Problems discovered with webcamera after it failed in Skype as well. After reboot, the webcam resumed functioning, and this error no longer occurs.

Hello,

I just confirmed this one (as opposed to file a new bug), I hope its OK...

I have this error on two ThinkPads T42, with Ubuntu 12.04. I installed cheese, and the window stays black.
Starting from the terminal, I get several (as above) Gtk-WARNING messages and finally the warning 'could not negotiate format'.

I used a Logitech E2500 series webcam and a Creative NX Ultra one.

Thank you,
Bogdan

I don't think so. Unlike the bug 1018020, skype and other programs are working fine, it's only cheese that's failing with this one. Unfortunately so far only cheese has the features I want out of available Ubuntu desktop programs.

I note that even preferences are unavailable (grayed out).
