Cheese displays no image, though webcam is active

Whenever I start cheese, the webcam light comes on, but I get no image displayed. Earlier builds would display an image until I clicked the effects button and upon returning from selecting effects, the image would be gone. Now I never get an image.

Camorama and Skype work correctly with the webcam.

getting this on up to date oneiric as well. confirmed that skype working fine also.

doing `gst-launch-0.10 autovideosrc ! ffmpegcolorspace ! autovideosink` never brings up a window.
doing aasink or cacasink instead does, and that window contains an ascii-artified image from the webcam.

If I go into chese preferences and change the photo resolution, the image appears. have to do this every time i launch cheese though.

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Ubuntu 11.04 (natty) reached end-of-life on October 28, 2012 and
Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) reached end-of-life on May 9, 2013.
