Bug Description

Binary package hint: cheese

When starting Cheese 2.29.5 the webcams currently plugged in are detected. If a new USB webcam is plugged or any webcam is unplugged this change is not recognised by Cheese.

When the active webcam is unplugged there could be a message that the webcam is no longer available.
When the Edit/Preferences window is opened the camera detection could be run to reflect the current state of the plugged and unplugged webcams the same like when the application is starting.

I guess this is the same... if I have the built-in webcam on my laptop switched off when starting cheese, it will only report an error and have no way to find it after I've turned it on. If it is possible to detect that a camera has appeared, then it would be nice to not have to restart. :)

Thanks!

You can verify whether an USB device is pulgged or not by running e.g. the "lsusb" ( http://linuxcommand.org/man_pages/lsusb8.html ) from an xterm or the "usbview" ( http://www.kroah.com/linux-usb/ ) program.
