Webcam doesn't work with Cheese on my DELL XPS M1330

Webcam included: Bus 007 Device 003: ID 05a9:7670 OmniVision Technologies, Inc.
OS: Ubuntu 8.10
Kernel: 2.6.27-7-generic
Cheese-Version: 2.24.1-0ubuntu1

My webcam doesn't work with cheese on my Ubuntu 8.10. But Ekiga does.
Under 8.04 eheese & ekiga works fine.

The programm freeze after the startup and there is no image only a blank area. If I start cheese while ekiga is running I can see test picture/pattern.

But I don't have any output with "cheese -v" and no output in "/var/log/syslog". Can anyone tell me where I could find more information the isolate the problem?

I try to attach a screencast with the problem.

In my case the webcam works with ekiga version 2.0.12-0ubuntu5, but not with the newer version installed with this ppa
