This is most probably a dup from bug #290506

Could you confirm to us if changing the resolution within cheese properties menu to 176x144?

thanks!

Most likely this bug is related to:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=551463

I think the resolution there was that it was the intel drivers fault.

i dont have 176x144.

i tried to change the resolution to 320x240 and it froze there.

i restarted cheese and the setting was saved, but it still did not work.

I have the same machine, same behavior. After looking at #290506 I can confirm: 'sudo modprobe -r uvcvideo && sudo modprobe uvcvideo && luvcview' restores functionality to luvcview, but doesn't fix cheese.

It seems to be a bug in uvcvideo, which is fixed upstream. Check out the instructions at http://www.soccio.it/michelinux/2008/10/25/webcam-cheese-gstreamer-and-uvcvideo-problems-in-intrepid/en/ . The workaround there solved it for me in cheese. Will report a bug against uvcvideo later on tomorow (unless already reported).
