Thanks for the bug report.

The "Native Windows taller than 65535 pixels are not supported" message seems to have been occurring in cheese and totem bug reports for several years already, according to a search of my email. So I don't think that's the cause here.

This bug should be about "Error reading events from display: Protocol error". See also bug 1965563.

I have the same problem running Ubuntu 22.04 Wayland.

$ cheese

(cheese:14884): Gdk-WARNING **: 10:23:38.778: Native Windows taller than 65535 pixels are not supported
Gdk-Message: 10:23:39.260: Error reading events from display: Protocol error

NOTES: If I install manually "libwayland-egl1-mesa" package, the error changes:

$ Gdk-Message: 11:40:46.327: Error 71 (Protocol error) dispatching to Wayland display.

Seems a problem with mesa:
