Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

I'd be curious to know if you're using an Ubuntu derivative (Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu), because otherwise it'd be hard for the Gnome settings daemon to not be running, which is what caused this crash. You could potentially work around this bug by installing gnome-settings-daemon, but that may not be feasible if you're using a derivative.

I'll mark this bug as Fix Released, since the development version has a new way of reading the media keys that will not experience this problem.

I'm running ubuntu with the KDE desktop (not kubuntu) installed on top of it. Thus gnome-settings-daemon was already installed...not sure if it would be running in this instance though.

Thanks for replying ! Yes, I think it would not be running if you're using the KDE environment.

Indeed I do see it in my process list right now. I didn't check this when I ran the test though, it may have crashed previously or as part of the test.
