Bug Description

Seems every time I start up my Ubuntu 12.04 machine this process continually generates the following error in the log files (ad infinitum, until it fills up the disk)

process 20018: arguments to dbus_message_iter_append_basic() were incorrect, assertion "_dbus_check_is_valid_utf8 (*string_p)" failed in file ../../dbus/dbus-message.c line 2535.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.

This is with the following version:

 0.39-2ubuntu2~ubuntu12.04.1

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Marking this as triaged since it's a clear crash, but only prioritizing as low since you're using packages from an auto-generated PPA and not from the archive.

Did cgmanager always do that for you or did that only start happening after upgrading to the latest backport?

Can you also attach /var/log/upstart/cgmanager.log? that may contain some useful information.

Which packages should I be using?

To use something which we actually support in a non-best effort basis, you'd have to use Ubuntu 14.04.

The LXC in Ubuntu 12.04 was 0.7.5 and cgmanager doesn't exist in the supported Ubuntu 12.04.
As LXC in Ubuntu 12.04 wasn't in main, it's also not really supported anymore.

We do provide those auto-generated PPAs as a courtesy but bugs found in those aren't treated as Ubuntu bugs and so typically only get fixed when they also affect the official Ubuntu packages inside the Ubuntu archive.

Serge just tried to reproduce this bug on Ubuntu 12.04 using the stable LXC PPA (which based on the version of cgmanager is what you're running) and he wasn't able to reproduce this error.

Ah, no worries then. Feel free to close this issue. Eventually I'll migrate to 14.04.
