Bug Description

For some reason cfv did not make it into 20.04, why?
It is contained in 19.10 as well as all current Debian suits including testing and unstable. I could not easily find any explanation.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

cfv (https://packages.ubuntu.com/eoan/cfv) requires python2 which is EOL.

Right, thanks for the pointer. I missed that it was already removed from Debian stable/Buster. It will soon follow in testing. There is some (stalled) effort porting it to Python 3 though: https://github.com/cfv-project/cfv/issues/8

rhash can be used instead of cfv: apt install rhash
rhash with -rc does more or less the same thing as cfv, performance is good and it supports most hash formats including bittorrent, CRC32, CRC32C, MD4, MD5, SHA1, SHA256, SHA512, SHA3, Tiger, DC++ TTH, BTIH, AICH, ED2K, GOST R 34.11-*, RIPEMD-160, HAS-160, EDON-R 256/512, Whirlpool, Snefru-128/256

CFV 3.0 for Python 3 was released in 2022, someone could upload new package into Debian or Ubuntu, see https://github.com/cfv-project/cfv/issues/4

Btw, I've found one more nice checksuming alternative - hashdeep , see http://md5deep.sf.net
