Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Hello. Mi english is very poor but i will try to describe what happen to me with celestia:
When i "go" to mars, earth, mercury, ... jupiter the behavior is normal. I can select any planet and everything goes ok.
The problem become when y "go" to saturn, urano and nepture (only that three)... Celestia crash (in fact only shut down or in other words close itself).
I try to understand this behavior by aproaching "manualy" to saturn (and the others). Crash in same way, but i can see a tiny orbit when im aproach before the program goes down.
In that moment i think the problem was celestia 1.6.0 but the 1.5.1 have de same issue. In this case i unistall completly the 1.6 and install manually de 1.5.1 (all downloaded from ubuntu official site).
With the GLUT gui also have the same behavior (I dont try the kde gui)
I have installed 10.04 LL from zero in a MSI Notebook VR601 (have an intel dualcore T2370 1.73hz with intel 965GM graphic card and 2gb of ram)
Also i try to modify some options of celestia config archive "celestia.cfg" in the folder "/usr/share/celestia/" but the issue does not dissapear.
I have celestia instaled in this very same machine with 9.10 KK and goes ok (never have a problem)
Well, as you can see y try everything that is in my range. Im only a ubuntu user... :(

I will report this in an other bug because seems like the actual bug is closed. Im sorry if this is not the aproppiated way
Mi mail is federico_gazaba at hotmail dot com
thanks!

Hi,

I had your same problem.

I solved it like this

1) find the texture you like on line (for example here
http://planetpixelemporeium.com or here
http://www.celestiamotherlode.net) or use those I've attached.

2) rename the new texture files with the right name, how to find it?

open (with some text editor) the file* solarsys.ssc *(in this file you
can find the settings for all planets of the solar system) placed in the
folder *celestia/data*

In example for Saturn search the string "saturn-rings".
You will find

Texture "saturn-rings.png"

saturn-rings.png will be the name of your new texture file

You will find something lake this for the other two planets.

3) replace (for saturn) or add (for urano and neptune) the new texture
file of the rings in this three folders

*celestia/textures/hires
celestia/textures/lores
celestia/textures/medres*.

I hope it will be helpful.

Cheers

P.S.
sorry, my english is poor too.

Thanks a lot my friend! its working correctly now :)

Description of the solution:

I serch for new texture in the sites you mention. The site "http://planetpixelemporeium.com" take anywere, so i try with "http://planetpixelemporium.com" and works.
The files "neptune-rings.png" and "saturn-rings.png" are fine... but the file "uranus-rings.png" show nothing (maybe the archive is corrupted). The problem now is can't find this texture in the two sites (i googling it too but can't find possitive result.
So, i make my onw rings of uranus modifying the neptune rings and based on a wikipedia photo of neptune. Will try to find the texture by others ways, for now the problem is solved.

Do you know why this texture fail "from zero instalation" of celestia? Some is wrong whit may system or the .deb is corrupted? I check the .deb of 1.5.1 and can't find those textures! Can't tell what happens.

For me and for now the problem is solved. Thank you!
