Creating data cd's still works when using Nautilus though. Any update on this?

I have a 'MATSHITA' 'BD-MLT SW-5582 ' BluRay writer and this definitely supports
to write CDs in RAW mode.

So far, I havn't seen any modern CD-writer that does not support RAW mode.

As wodim is just an unmaintained fork from a very old cdrecord and as the
fork has just been created by some Debian packetizers in order run a
social attack against the cdrtools project, it does not make sense to discuss
problems that appear with wodim.

If you are interested, I would recomment you to join the cdrtools-developers
mailing list https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/cdrecord-developers

You should test whether the problem also exists with the latest original
software http://cdrecord.berlios.de/private/cdrecord.html

ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/

If the problem also exists with the original software, you could kill
hald and try again to check whether the problem is caused by hald.

Thanks a lot for the comment Schily! I've found https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-burning/+archive/ppa, which holds an older version of cdrtools. I will upgrade that package to 2.01.01a76 and put it into my own PPA. I'll post my findings here when i tested it :) Hopefully my girlfriend will be able to use her cdwriter soon :)

Added the latest version of cdrtools and smake to my ppa ( https://launchpad.net/~verwilst/+archive/ppa)! I'm currently waiting for the builds to finish, and then i'll try to install them on my girlfriend's laptop :)

Well, just to let you know, all the deps pointed to wodim etc, which tried to uninstall brasero when i wanted to install cdrtools.. bleh.. And in the meantime, my girlfriend asked me again to burn an audio cd for her, since she has given up on burning discs with her laptop ages ago because of this bug, and it's again not succeeding for me as well.. it's almost 2012.. i would have thought it would be technically possible to burn a cd with Ubuntu by now ;) So sad.. Does ANYONE ever care to comment on this after nearly 2 years??

Another year gone by, another year of dual-booting to windows to burn a disc.
