Bug Description

When I try to burn the ISO image of karmic-alpha-3 by right clicking onto it in nautilus then, select burn to CD (700 MB CD-R is inserted) and then try to burn it to disk brasero fails after a short time. The CD isn't usable (neither for writing nor reading).

Burning the image with the same hardware works with Ubuntu 8.04 .

matthias@hanne:~$ lsb_release -rd

It may be a problem with drive/media compatibility or with
wodim.

Wodim is known for having many issues and these issues
exist for years without being fixed. As wodim is based on
an extremely outdated version (5 year old) of cdrecord,
wodim even misses the features that could allow to check the
media status in order to understand the cause of the problem.....

I recommend you to upgrade to recent original software from:

ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/
http://cdrecord.berlios.de

If the problem is caused by wodim, you need to manually remove
wodim and make sure that brasero really uses cdrecord.

If you still have problems, you may check the media status
by calling:

cdrecord -minfo

Changed in cdrkit (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
