Bug Description
Binary package hint: cdparanoia
Red Hat has developed some patches for cdparanoia to enable it to use the 2.6 kernel's SG-IO interface instead of the inferior cooked ioctl interface currently being used. The patches will speed up ripping (sometimes significantly) and improve reliability.
These patches were recently added to Gentoo Linux stable x86 and work well. There's more information here:

My my, this is an old forgotten bug. I believe that this patch made it upstream and down into Ubuntu long ago, so I'm closing this report. If that is not the case, please reopen it.
