Bug Description
A live CD is one of the few opportunities one gets a user's attention to convince to use the product.
Letting the user experience as little transition problems as possible should be prioritized.
One of the ways of achieveing this is to automatically mount existing drives/partitions even if they contain proprietary, but yet widely used, file systems.
A positive side-effect is that an Ubuntu desktop-CD can be used as a rescue CD for users of other operating systems that haven't got any rescue solution.

This is fixed in Feisty and I believe edgy. If you go to Places/computer the drives are there to mount/unmount at will.
